I was at Christchurch airport to pick up my parent-in-laws and my kids wanted to see their plane land so we went to the northern end of the airport. When looking back to the south you could see the sun setting and the amazing colours but also these amazing cool wave like clouds.
I had seen these clouds in a photo taken up in the North Island a few weeks ago and thought it was photoshopped or something but it wasn’t until I saw these ones in Christchurch that I realised it wasn’t. These clouds are called Kelvin-Helmholz waves and can be seen all over the world but you have to be in the right place and the right time.
I have heard that it is very rare to see these clouds in New Zealand and should feel lucky to have seen them. I hope you all enjoy the photo and please check out our other content on Facebook, YouTube and Instagram. Links below.
